Marriage & Couples Counseling

For couples who want to communicate better, rebuild trust, work through conflict or prepare well for marriage.

When couples come to see me

  • You keep having the same argument, and nothing changes
  • Trust has been broken
  • You feel more like roommates than partners
  • A big change, like a new baby, an illness, a move or an empty nest, has shaken things
  • You’re blending families or remarrying
  • You’re engaged and want a strong start

What couples counseling looks like

In our sessions I help each of you feel heard, slow down the patterns that keep repeating, and work on practical steps you can take at home between sessions. I draw on ideas from the Gottman Method for couples, along with Reality Therapy’s focus on what each of you can choose and change today.

If you’re people of faith, we can bring your faith and your marriage covenant into the conversation. If not, you’re welcome just the same.

Premarital counseling

Premarital counseling gives engaged couples room to talk through what matters before the wedding: communication, expectations, money, family, faith and how you’ll handle disagreements. It can be especially helpful if one or both of you has been married before, or if you’re bringing children into a new family.

What it costs

$140 per 50-minute session, the same fee for couples as for individuals. I’m out of network with insurance and provide superbills. More about fees.

If only one of you is ready to come in, call anyway. We can talk about how to begin.

How to get started

Call 704-535-2224 for a free 15-minute phone consultation, or email darylehineslpc@gmail.com. Couples can meet in person at my office in Mint Hill or by telehealth if you live in North Carolina.

The first step

Start with a free 15-minute phone consultation

Tell me a little about what’s going on, ask any questions, and see whether we’re a good fit. No pressure and no cost.

If you are in crisis

Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time, day or night. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Phone messages and email are not monitored for emergencies.
