Do you take insurance?

I don’t file insurance claims myself. I’m an out-of-network provider, and I give you a superbill so you can file with your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes. You can pay for sessions with your HSA or FSA (Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account) card.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt for your sessions. It lists the dates, the fees you paid, and the information insurance companies usually ask for. You send it to your insurance company, and if your plan has out-of-network benefits, they may pay you back for part of what you paid.

Questions to ask your insurance company

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health counseling?
  2. What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?
  3. After the deductible, what percentage of the fee will be reimbursed?
  4. Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
  5. Do I need pre-authorization or a referral?
  6. Are telehealth sessions covered the same way as in-person sessions?
  7. How do I submit a superbill, and how long does reimbursement usually take?

Every plan is different, and reimbursement isn’t guaranteed, so it’s worth checking before you start.
